Remember Rebecca Inspirational Parents Award 2017
Once again I have had the privelidge to cover a truly remarkable Event.
Saturday 1st July 2017A charity known as Remember Rebecca held its Inspirational Parents Award night. Which was full of stories of peoples struggles and their Joy at raising amazing, beautiful special children and showing them all the love and care they can give.
But first I'll need to do a brief history lesson.
Remember Rebecca was formed by Gemma and Mick Sands a loving couple who wanted to help parents going through difficulties after their own.
Gemma and Mick had a beautiful baby girl called Rebecca who was born with severe difficulties and unfortunately passed away. However that little girl in her short time on our planet caused more good than most people combined, hence how Remember Rebecca was formed. Gemma and Mick faced a tragic event and difficult times but overcame them. And then started to help other families in similar situations by fund raising and buying equipment for families and paying for holidays, treats and activities that families would otherwise struggle with for their children.
Remember Rebecca recieve nominations from accross the area for Parents who go the extra mile for their children. Over the last 3 years I have assisted remember Rebecca I have heard the nominations of parents have undergone special high level training to be able to have their children at home and provide the constant medical care they require. Parents who have had to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds to take their child abroad for treatment not available in the UK, Parents that gave up their jobs to be their special children day in and day out to care for them and show their love. The finalists are selected when all the nominations are in and they are invited to a special evening to share their stories.
The stories never come from the parents directly as they are too modest and see it as only doing what any parent would. But through the night The inspirational Parents are read out what their nominees have put about them and why they deserve the award. It is heart breaking hearing some of the stories but hearing and seeing the love shown and the support. The parents don't do what they do so everyone see's it and thins "aww" and its never for attention. But people see things in different lights. And where the parents see it as doing thier duty others see it as something amazing and special that needs to be recognised. It also a thank you on behalf of the children that sometimes can't show their appreciation back.
I witnessed some of the strongest people I know break down into tears when their own story is read out to them from someone elses perspective. Because they then see how their ordinary acts in their mind are extraordinary to others. There is no shame in breaking down. There is no shame in the tears shed.
With Remember Rebecca there are no losers. Everyone is a winner. However only one nomination can take the trophy home. And this is calculated by the number of nominations recieved for that individual.
The winner of the 2017 Inspirational Parent award was Kara Ingles. But although the trophy was won there is a deeper meaning behind the night and the charity. And that is that no matter situation a family / parent is in. They are not alone. Others are going through similar and it is a way to connect. A way to support each other. A way to help each other. It's a deeper bond between people that is exclusive and that only those people in these circumstances can fully appreciate and understand. Outsiders like Friends, Neighbours, Teachers and the public can only sympathise and have a partial understanding of.
What these Parents show their children is nothing short of amazing. And all of us can only hope we can show our children even a 10th of the love, care and devotion that these amazing people show.
It is a night that always gets close to my heart. And is a cause I will always support.
These Parents show Strength to overcome all the hardships that few people will ever possess through their lives. They show love and understanding that even fewer people know can exist. But above all they show Hope and Understanding in every day they live, and every action they do.
There are no words to describe what the people involved in this charity are. But the closest I can find that will never do justice is amazing.
And I look forward to being able to help out in the years ahead.
Below is the photo of all the nominations for the 2017 Inspirational Parents Award. And each and everyone of you is a winner. And each and everyone of you is a Beacon for others. The light for others to follow in your footsteps. Keep up the hard work and remember you are loved and supported by everyone around you. Your not in this alone.
